.............Mission
....................................................
..................To inspire confidence, courage, and hope through the gift of the arts.
........................................................................................................................................
..................For many  people,  the butterfly symbolizes beauty, happiness,
..................transformation, and freedom.  Studies show that the image of
..................a butterfly is remembered longer than most other images.  Just
..................thinking of a butterfly can reduce heart rate and improve brain
..................function.   The most enchanting mystery?   People of all ages
..................smile when they see a butterfly.
....................................................................................................................
..................Art  inspires  hope,  faith, and creativity.  Interaction with art can
..................improve self confidence and often strengthens courage.  Art can
..................bring out the very best in people.
....................................................................................................................
..................For too many people, oppression, abuse, neglect, despair, and
..................helplessness, are a fact of everyday life.  Many innocent people
..................are routinely victimized by injustice, in and out of the courtroom.
..................Others are deprived of freedom, or even love and affection.  Too
..................many others suffer alone or in silence, without anyone to speak
..................for them.   Concern for each one of them is the cornerstone of
..................this mission.  Improving their condition, if only in a small way, is
..................the primary mission focus.
................................................................................................................
..................By combining the symbolism of the butterfly, with the gift of the
..................arts, Quantum 7 Butterfly.org, and 1 Million Butterflies.org, hope
..................
..................to enrich the lives of as many people as possible.

............About Us
................................
................We are a small group of ART lovers,
................a physicist turned water color artist, a sculptor, a musician, an architect,
................a lawyer turned writer, an aeronautical engineer, and a petroleum engineer.
....................................................................................................................
................For the past 14 years, the founder of our organization has given FREE art
................to nursing home residents, and shut ins, across America.
........................................
................She delivered her small, colorful paintings, without charge, each time she
................travelled to a new city for business or vacation.  Nearly 300,000 prints
................delivered to date.  Her mission, to bring a little color, and the joy of the arts,
................to those who were unable to visit art galleries or museums.  She extended
................her efforts without asking for recognition or compensation.
....................................................................................
................Over time, more and more people, friends and relatives of residents, asked
................for more and more art.   In 2012, we launched a website to promote the gift
................of the arts to even more people.
.........................................
..................................................................... ~
............................................................................................................
................The founder of Quantum 7.org, Katharyne (Kitty) is a former
................member of V.I.S.T.A. (Volunteers in Service to America, formerly known as
................The Domestic Peace Corps, now Americorps).  Her first VISTA assignment:..
................Design a grass roots literacy program for migrant farm workers in W. Florida.
..........................
..............................
..........................
................After watching children play in the dry, dusty, monochromatic, back roads of
................Pasco County, Florida, Katharyne asked to create an art education program.
................Through art,  color,  and elementary physics, students of all ages learned to
................expand their horizons.  Their first art project, paint a portrait of a butterfly.......................
..................................................................................................................................................................................    .........
................Katharyne took her Butterfly Gallery on the road for the first time in Spring 2000.
................Destination:  West Florida.   Because of  her VISTA experience, she introduced
................her Mobile Gallery to a migrant farm workers' community.  We went along for the
................ride.  We were aware of the Mobile Library concept, we were about to see a
................Mobile Art Gallery in action.

........................................................

................On the way to Florida we passed another monochromatic scene, this time, gray.
................Three, thin, homeless men stood around a fire, under an overpass, a few yards
................from the road. The wore long gray coats, even their faces were gray.  When we
................pulled over to give art to them, they scattered.
.........................................
................Undeterred, Katharyne dropped six prints into an envelope and tacked it to a
................tree.  The next day we drove back to check the status of her delivery.  The men
................had tacked a thank you to the tree:  T.Y. BUTTERFLY, written in charcoal on the
................enevelpe.  The poetry of those words, and the power of the art that inspired them,
................are memorable.
.................................................................`.....~
............................................................................................
................In Florida, we helped Katharyne set up a table under a shade tree.   Sixty two
................adults and children turned out.  They all smiled as they veiwed the butterfly
................exhibit.   An elderly Haitian lady chose a blue butterfly, native to her homeland.
................She held the print to her face as she walked away, smiling.   A 5 year old child
................asked, shlyly, if she could have a second butterfly for her "Mama's new baby".
................She quietly offered a nickel.
......................................................................
................Everyone said, "Thank you".  Everyone smiled.  Everyone invited us to visit
................again.  As we packed to leave, two people approached.  They had walked
................half a mile to bring a gallon of cool water.   We drove them home and as we
................said good bye, they offered a blessing,."God Speed".
......................
................These early experiences continue to strengthen Katharyne's commitment to
................provide the gift of the arts to as many people as possible.   We're still along
................for the ride.   Join us.  ART.and butterflies bring a smile to the heART.

................Design
............................................
.......................................................................................................................................................................................
................Printing process
................Each butterfly is prined on heavy card stock, in a standard size:  3.5 " x  5 ".
................This standard size is designed to fit any frame or mat that features a 3" x  4.5"
................opening.  Fade resistant ink is used in the printing process, to insure a long
................lasting, beautiful, image.

................Frames
................No need to buy expensive custom mats or frames.  You can find very nice
................standard size frames fo $1.00 at most Dollar Stores.  If you prefer a more
................expensive mat or frame, they are available at slightly higher prices, in stores
................across America.

................Adaptable
................The 3.5" x 5" standard size is perfect for people who are confined to small
................spaces (nursing homes, prisons, or recovery centers).  For those who are
................unable to have glass or sharp corners, the card stock is sturdy enough to
................stand alone on window sills or tables.  Members of the armed services are
................able to keep them above their bunks or in knapsacks.

................Unexpected Benefit to You
................People who are not restricted by space or other limitations will find added joy
................in the seach for mats and frames.  You'll meet and talk with other ART llovers,
................have fun exchanging new ideas about art, and learn about artistic events in
................your area.   As you engage in the process of providing art to others, you will
................enrich your own life.

................Sun Screen for the Beach Area Homeless

................This year, Quantum 7 Butterfly will expand its mission to provide sun screen to
................homeless people who live in beach areas.  Many suffer from serious sunburn.

................Along with free butterfly prints, Katharyne will provide free sun screen.  In the
................past, she distributed sun screen on a small scale to homeless people who live
................in the beach areas of Southern California.   All of the people she met applied it
................to thier faces and hands.
................Now because of your generous donations,, Quantum.7.Butterfly.org .is able
................to subsidize sun screen to many more people.

................The Anonymous Donor
...........................................................................................................................................
................Several years ago, Katharyne was handing out butterfly prints in a barrio in
................Southeast  San Diego.   A yellow Cadillac drove by twice.   The driver wore
................a tailored white suit, a white  Borsolino hat, and a yellow tie.  We jumped to
................the obvious  conclusion which was confirmed by the locals.  The man in white
................seemed to be surveying our presence in his territory.
.......................................
................The third time he drove by,  Katharyne flagged him down.   He pulled over a
................few feet away and before we knew what was happening,  Katharyne walked to
................his car.   We couldn't hear what she said, but she engaged him in coversation
................for some time.
......................................
................The next day, she delivered five butterfly prints to a private grocery store.
................The man in white had left an envelope.  Inside, ten brand new, one hundred
................dollar bills.  The next day, she left a large framed butterfly print for him.  We
................never saw him again.  To this day we don't know what Katharyne said to him.
